Normally about now we’d all be starting the countdown to Christmas, but these are no longer normal times. With eight weeks to the big day, here’s how you can get back in shape before the New Year, so January doesn’t have to be yet another month of misery
I don’t know about you, but I find the end of October problematic. Once Halloween’s done, it’s normal for our collective attention to turn to Christmas – an event still two months away!
At no other time of year do we focus on something so distant. It’s now normal for everything we read, watch or hear to mention the countdown to Christmas. It’s like we’re all wishing eight weeks of our lives away!
My other problem is now that it’s colder, darker and wetter many of us are moving less often but eating more frequently.
So you start to gain weight. But that’s ok – you tell yourself – that’s normal this time of year.
You put your health and fitness goal to one side. You’ll pick it up in January. That’s ok – you tell yourself – that’s the normal month to think about losing weight.
The new normal
The thing is, and you won’t need me to tell you this, we are no longer living in normal times.
Your Christmas calendar this year won’t be crammed with office parties, catch-ups with old friends, or any other seasonal social get-togethers.
